i am jen is Jen Scaturro, New York’s electronic-pop superhero known for her future-modern synth & beat programming, eclectic songwriting and multi-instrumentalist antics.

i am jen’s scientific blend of pop-tronic music is introspective, with a stylistic mix of clever vocal processing, hooky synth lines and electronic beats.

“i am jen is a cross between Massive Attack and sometimes the glitchier bits of Aphex Twin,…she is similar to Suzanne Vega as well – this is true, especially vocally. I would throw in a bit of early Bjork too.” (Robert Pisani @ AlternativeMalta.com)

Synths, bass, guitar, drum machines, melodica, stylophone, (you name it)…Jen was playing piano before she could walk. She toured the west coast in jazz and pop bands, recorded a 45, and build a recording studio in her bedroom by age 15.

2 colleges, 3 cities, 4 bands and 7 apartments later jen filled her New York city studio with solitude and fed her computer everything that made sound. Her electro-pop stylings caught the ears of major label stars. Programming beats and synth lines on albums progressed to producing songs for records, film & TV.

“Jen’s solo electronic work is thoughtful, provoking, emotional and scientific, whispering tales of imaginary inner worlds. She combines music with art, pictures and various forms o media to provide a more complete picture of the artist behind the stage.” (in_2_it @ crater Technology Magazine)

The Broken EP (2004), a self-produced, four-song introduction to i am jen, has been embraced with international exposure. Radio 1 added “At the Same Time” to the playlist. XM and other stations soon followed in the U.S., Europe and across the web. MTV, CBS, FOX & HBO have licensed songs for their television shows.  i am jen has been featured in Keyboard, Computer Music and Future Music magazines.

Invisible (2007), another 4-song EP, inspired Jen to explore video production. The music video for “Blowing My Mind” is a narrative, stop-motion animated  short.  It has aired on PBS (Thirteen/WNET) and in local New York City movie houses.

Electronic Collection No. 1 and SLOW IS IN were also released in 2007.  EC01 takes a look back before i am jen was born.  This moody collection of 11 instrumentals has been used as the soundtrack to independent film (“Guest of Cindy Sherman”) and television programs (“The First 48”).  It has brought Jen many scoring opportunities including shows for the Sundance Channel (“Iconoclasts”) and Discovery (“Last Seen Alive”).

Heard “Broken” on Pandora, bought EP, love your music and your sound quality. Do you make your own masters? I’ve seldom heard sound as good as yours.

I first found your music at T61. I am just now finding out more about you and where your music has been and gone. If you have the time, I would really appreciate a little information on how you established yourself, especially for TV and Film. Did you do all of your own promoting, pr, marketing, etc.? If not, would you tell a little about who helped you and how? Again, I really do appreciate you taking the time to answer my post. I’m sure you don’t have much available time. Thank you in advance!

I found you on Pandora, too, and after hearing the first 20 seconds of “Broken,” I went to Amazon.com and bought the album.

Thanks for your AMAZING music! I look forward to following your career!

In the very stale world of music, you Jen, are a breath of fresh air. Congrats on the JC Penny spot by the way. You are what makes that song listenable for me.

Since “The Broken” came out in ’04 and “Invisible” in ’07 (three years apart) that might mean you have some new material for 2010?? I certainly hope so.

Any time I play your stuff to an unsuspecting acquaintance they always ask “who/what” it is. They are used to me playing stuff they have never heard and rarely ask about it. Your sound has a certain hook that grabs attention and makes them ask.

I love the texture of your sound and the lyrical style. You certainly have a gift…
